World Series Game 7 Attracts 51 Million Audience Members Across the US, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The nail-biting extended clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays by one run drew a total 51 million watchers in the US, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB announced this represents the most-watched Fall Classic finale since the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game drew over 27 million audience members on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and their digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent improvement compared to the last finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 was seventh, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game finished in 13th place.

Global Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game drew over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English broadcast in Canada since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game began at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12M. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – averaged 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match series recorded 15.71 million viewers on Fox, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Including the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the total American viewership was over 16 million. The total World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent rise over the previous year and the network’s strongest playoff performance after 2017.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen different tongues.
